Starting and Stopping the DTC

The Component Services administrative tool allows you to start or stop the DTC service.

Note   To commit any configuration changes, the Component Services administrative tool requires the DTC to be running. If you attempt to change any settings using the Component Services administrative tool when the DTC is stopped, the DTC is restarted. If you get errors when attempting to use the Component Services administrative tool, verify that the DTC is started and, if not, restart it.

To start or stop the DTC using the Component Services administrative tool

1. In the console tree of the Component Services administrative tool, click the computer for which you are managing transactions.
   
   
2. Right-click the computer, and then click Start MS DTC or Stop MS DTC.

If the DTC fails to start, examine the Event Viewer administrative tool to see whether any DTC-related events are displayed near the time of the failure. The DTC typically logs an event when it is unable to start successfully.
